A Research Laboratory addressing the City and Transportation

Created en 2003, the laboratory “Ville, Mobilité, Transports » (LVMT, or “City, Mobility, Transport”) is the product of a partnership between an engineering school - ENPC- Ecole des Ponts, a research institute -INRETS - the National Research Institute on Transport and Transportation Security, and a university - UMLV- the University of Marne-la-Vallée. At the intersection of academic and applied research, the laboratory addresses the interactions between city and transportation. The city is dealt with in its largest sense (metropolitan areas, networks of cities…) as is transport: not only commuting movements but also those of the non-constrained type (e.g. leisure and tourism) are considered, as is freight movement within the city. The research themes are three’fold :

- Individual Mobility and Metropolisation
- Mobility Policies & Territorial Layout
- Network Economics and Supply/Demand Modelling

LVMT is a multidisciplinary laboratory. LVMT research staff represents the fields of economics, sociology, applied mathematics, geography, urban planning, and political science, among others.

The LVMT is deeply involved in teaching with about 2200 teaching hours in Masters by research and professional Masters mostly at Université Paris Est, ENPC and UMLV but also at University of Lille 1. The Director of the Doctoral Programme “City, Transport, Territory” is a researcher at LVMT.

The LVMT is part of competitiveness cluster on “sustainable City and Mobility” and works to develop partnerships with transport and service enterprises, public institutions, and local authorities.
