The project
Since 2013, the City Mobility Transport Lab has developed a meta-observatory of mobility, with the support of the Renault-ParisTech Sustainable Mobility Institute (IMD). The meta-observatory is a tool for researchers, international institutions and companies. It provides data at country and city scale to analyze a particular urban mobility system or to compare mobility systems accross countries.
Besides the data available at country scale, 70 urban areas above one million inhabitants accross the world have been included in the meta-observatory as of 2018. For each urban area, the meta-observatory offers a diagnosis of mobility demand, infrastructure, vehicle stock, public transport services, regulation and air quality. The diagnosis is based on the collection and consolidation of heterogeneous data from a wide range of sources. Six composite indicators aggregate quantitative data (such as car ownership rate) and qualitative data (such as the existence of a public transport authority). Their combination reveals city’s profiles.
